For months and what seems like forever, fans of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare have been eager to hear news about the production of the 2nd book, City of Ashes, being turned into a movie. After the release of the City of Bones movie, fans have been excited about the 2nd book’s adaptation. But with setbacks all the way from having to entirely re-write the script to what is now a change in directors, fans have been biting their nails over this movie. Finally yesterday on June 25th, a bit of hope was bestowed upon fans. The brilliant actor Jamie Campbell Bower, or as we fans know him as Jace Herondale Wayland Morgenstern Lightwood sat down and spoke with the Daily Mail about the City of Ashes movie, and his eagerness to be a part of the 2nd franchise. And fans of the series will be very pleased to hear of the actors experience reading the last book, City of Heavenly Fire.
- ‘I’ve read all the books and the new one, City Of Heavenly Fire, too,’ Campbell Bower says. ‘If they asked me to do the next one I’d f**king love to.’
Earlier during the month of the release of City of Heavenly Fire, a fan asked Cassandra Clare about news on the production of City of Ashes becoming a movie and whether or not Jamie would still be playing the role of Jace.
Q: As a massive fan I was just wondering when filming is going to start for City of Ashes? Do you know if Jamie will still be playing Jace?
A: I don’t know, I would think so, I would personally be surprised if they didn’t have him. They had to completely redo the entire screenplay, which takes a long time but believe me you wanted that screenplay redone! I will tell you one thing that is, Clary split into 2 people that both looked like her and had a shovel fight with one another. (Sarah Brennan) Oh and of course Magnus running for mayor of New York. (Cassie) I thought you liked when Jace rode the mermaid! The cast was never the issue, the script was the issue but I have been told that I would hear from them in the next couple of weeks! I mean he (Magnus) would make a great mayor in principle but a race of peoples entire reason for being is to hide themselves from Mundanes, probably running for mayor isn’t a good idea.
Variety reported that Constantin Films would be beginning production for the second film this year, but they had been unclear about the actors returning. Not only are fans awaiting news, but the author and actors are too. It does indeed seem though that the hype for City of Ashes has begun!
