Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott

I don’t even have words to begin to explain how great this book was! I didn’t know what to expect from this book and I was completely blown away! Scott is such a great writer. Her style along with the story flowed so well and I was compelled to keep reading and to find out what was going to happen. I am giving this book a 5 star review on Goodreads, because it deserves it!
If you haven’t read this book guys, I don’t know what it is you’re doing, but you need to pause that to read this book! Fire & Flood is fantastic. The book is action packed, hysterical, nail-biting, hair pulling, and beautifully compelling! I highly recommend!

About Fire & Flood:
Tella Holloway is losing it. Her brother is sick, and when a dozen doctors can’t determine what’s wrong, her parents decide to move to Montana for the fresh air. She’s lost her friends, her parents are driving her crazy, her brother is dying—and she’s helpless to change anything.

Until she receives mysterious instructions on how to become a Contender in the Brimstone Bleed. It’s an epic race across jungle, desert, ocean, and mountain that could win her the prize she desperately desires: the Cure for her brother’s illness. But all the Contenders are after the Cure for people they love, and there’s no guarantee that Tella (or any of them) will survive the race.

The jungle is terrifying, the clock is ticking, and Tella knows she can’t trust the allies she makes. And one big question emerges: Why have so many fallen sick in the first place?

Spoilers Below:

I absolutely loved how fast paced this book was! Scott’s writing is so easy and nice to read which made the experience I had reading this book so much more enjoyable. The book overall was great and I loved every minute of reading it!
Tella is such a great character because she is so much fun, and she is hilarious. I loved her look on life, and her reaction to some of the things going on around her. I just loved her so much! Tella also had such great character development because she changes throughout the race, and in the end especially she becomes much more serious and involved in the race. I liked the fact that she grew as a character without drastically changing or losing the essence of the person she is. Tella constantly talked about the things she missed about home, and her life before the race. She was able to not lose herself in the race and I truly appreciated that.

From the moment they locked eyes, at the “Pandora” scene, I knew something was going to happen between Tella and Guy. I was excited to see where that relationship would go, and I am very happy about where it went. I have to ship it, I mean come on! They are so cute! I mean what couple do you know of that would help each other with a leech bite? Come on! ❤

Guy was such a great character as well. I really loved him, because he was a mystery and he still is. Scott wrote him in such an interesting way because you spend the 1st half of the book questioning his motives, and then the rest gushing over him! He was funny as well because he stirred some tension in the group and then automatically became their leader!

It was funny how comical they acted almost. The scenes where he drank from the water bottle and then had to say “You don’t need my permission.” were so funny. Even when I warmed up to him I was thinking, “Please, don’t betray us!” He didn’t. In fact he saved us from Titus.

Oh, Titus. I wanted to smack him! He drove me crazy with being psychotic one moment and kissing her the next.
The end of this book was intense and I was hanging off the edge of my seat, just calming myself because it got so crazy. I was so scared that Tella was going to die but she made it.

I feel so bad for her having to kill that Pandora. It was so sad.
I came to love her companions and it killed me when Harper left. I am intrigued to find out how she is going to end up helping Guy and Tella take down the Brimstone Bleed.
I suspected something was up with the Brimstone, and Guy’s story kept me wondering. I am excited to see how we end up taking them down, or attempting to win to take them down. The ecosystem challenges went by faster than I thought, so I am anticipating that in the next book, and majority of it will be them trying to destroy the Brimstone Bleed. I am also really interested to see what happens in the next to ecosystems. It can’t be worse than the desert, can it?!

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was fantastic and not what I was really expecting! Scott did such a great job and I loved this story she has created! It won’t be long before I get my hands on the next book and I am ready to find out what happens!
I loved this book so much! Thank you for a great novel Scott, amazing job!
